Arriving in Western Canada in 1980, Schickedanz West was one of the early homebuilders to set foot in the Calgary real estate market after the Alberta oil boom of the mid 1970’s.
A small team of brothers and relatives began by purchasing residential lots and building single family homes.
By the late 1980’s, Schickedanz West was building several hundred homes a year.
Throughout the mid 1990’s, Schickedanz West expanded their portfolio to include recreational real estate, commercial development, hotels, land development, and private equity finance.
Schickedanz West is now a multi-generational company, owned and managed by family and industry professionals who are devoted to conducting business with the same integrity and principles that were instilled by its founding members over 70 years ago.

Towards the end of World War II, and with the Russian Army quickly advancing, four men made a decision: they would escape war-torn Europe and start a new life – and a successful business – in North America.
Arriving in Toronto in 1951, the four Schickedanz Brothers quickly found work in the booming post-war construction industry.
The brothers’ steadfast commitment to quality and integrity would soon propel their modest beginnings into a flourishing construction business.
From custom homes to shopping centres and apartment buildings, a team of four had grown to a staff of many and the business into a well-respected force within the Greater Toronto real-estate market.
The Schickedanz Brothers would soon venture as far south as Florida and the Carolina’s before beginning their explorations into Western Canada.
